How to connect the plug to the wire: Euro plug and old plug

Every modern person at home and at work has more than ten electrical devices that greatly simplify life and make it more comfortable. In order for the devices to function, they need to be connected to the electrical network. For this purpose, various modifications of electrical products were invented and manufactured; they provide continuous current transmission to the power units of a household appliance.

Types of electrical plugs

EU plug

Before figuring out how to assemble an outlet plug, you need to familiarize yourself with their varieties. In terms of their design features, electrical plugs differ little from each other. Their main difference may be in design and structure. The most common varieties, which are often mounted in everyday life, are the following models:

  • without grounding;
  • collapsible models;
  • with grounding;
  • non-separable modifications;
  • European standard;
  • the usual type.
Grounding plug

Collapsible models are the most popular, due to this high functionality and the ability to replace the electrical plug if necessary. Non-separable models have a cast body, so it is not possible to disassemble it. During repairs, the wires must be cut at the base.

Increasingly, European-style sockets are being installed in Russian homes. A plug of the correct standard is required to ensure a reliable connection and a continuous supply of current.

Every electrical device is a potential threat to human health and life. To prevent possible injury, it is imperative that plugs are equipped with a grounding conductor to ensure safe operation.

Corner Euro plug CEE 7/16

However, forks differ not only in design features. Currently, two types of plugs with C-type cords according to GOST are produced on the domestic market. On the non-separable case of each product, there must be a marking, which lists all the technical characteristics - the permissible indicators of the supply voltage, the value of the permissible current.

  • C5 is an analogue of the European plug CEE 7-16, it has a round pin with a diameter of 4 mm, which is reduced to the free ends, the length of the insulation is 10 mm from the body. The plug is designed for a load current of no more than 6 A, it is not equipped with a grounding contact.
  • C6 is also an analogue of the CEE 7-17 European plug, equipped with a round pin 4.8 mm in diameter, there are modifications with a grounding contact and without a grounding contact, the plug is designed for a current of no more than 10 A.

In Russia, a large number of devices with cords are used, which are equipped with collapsible plugs of the C1-B type with a round pin with a diameter of 4 mm, designed for a load current of up to 6 A, there is no grounding contact.

Design features

The device of electrical plugs is divided into several types. You need to familiarize yourself with the technical characteristics, advantages and disadvantages of each in more detail.

Non-separable fork device

Monolithic fork

The design features of non-separable modifications are the same everywhere. The pins are installed at intervals of 19 mm into a strip made of plastic, the conductors are pressed into it. The bar is equipped with two projections, the purpose of which is to bypass the wire. The bypass is important in that it eliminates the possibility of breaking the plug cord if significant force has been applied to it.

The wire and pins are filled with molten plastic. This ensures a high degree of tightness of the case with the power cord securely fixed in it.

The device is a collapsible three-pole design

Not so long ago, only collapsible structures were used to connect electrical appliances. Today they are still used by a large number of Russians. You cannot do without such a part if you need to replace a cast mechanism that has failed. The advantage of such a plug is maintainability and the ability to reuse it. It can be easily dismantled and installed on another cord.

Device of construction type C1-B

The structure of the electric plug type C1-B

This design is incredibly simple to implement. It consists of two halves of a plastic body, two brass pins, fasteners and a clamping bar.

Design features of a collapsible design of type C6

The design is also not particularly complex. Modifications are available with or without a grounding contact. Designed for the operation of devices with a power of no more than 220 watts. The pins are made of brass, with threaded pads pressed onto them for screwing the wires. The pins are attached to the base of the plug. An earthing contact can additionally be installed in the housing, which is in the form of a brass strip. There is also a strap for securely attaching the wire with a plastic gasket.

How to change the plug on the wire

It is not difficult to repair the plug for the outlet, but it is very important to observe personal safety during the work.

How to disassemble an electric plug type C1-B

It is required to prepare the ends of the wires for the connection. For this, the cord is cut at an interval of no more than 5 cm from the plug. If the plug has overheated due to an unreliable connection, as a rule, the insulation in these places becomes rigid and must be replaced. Rings are formed at the ends of the wire. After that, spring grovers and flat washers are installed on the screws. Now this structure can be inserted into the screws.

The screw must be screwed into the pin until it stops. In the same way, the wire is connected to the second pin. They are mounted with protrusions in the body in special recesses. A bar is placed on the wire and pressed against the body with two screws. If the insulation is thin, in order to prevent it from rubbing at the exit from the structure, it is recommended to put a PVC or rubber tube over the insulating layer.

Replacement of electric plug type C1-B

Finally, the halves of the body are connected and tightened with a nut and a screw. If the two halves of the wire interfere with tight contact, they need to be pushed aside.

How to connect a three-pole plug C6 to the wire

Preparing the wire for connection is carried out in the same way as in the previous section. The assembly technology is the same.

If the kit does not include grower forks, they must be installed. The green-yellow wire can only be connected to the grounding terminal. As a rule, it is located in the middle between the contact pads of the pins.

The two-pole cord does not have a grounding contact, therefore, this place in the plug will remain free.

Features of replacing different types of electrical plugs

Replacement of a European-style design

Stages of replacing the electrical plug of the European image

As a rule, the need for replacement arises when the integrity of one of the pins has been broken. The technology is quite simple:

  1. Replacement begins with dismantling the old Euro plug and removing the outer sheath from the wire. At least 5 cm is removed from the end.
  2. Each core of the wire is stripped approximately 15 mm. This length will be sufficient for connecting wires in a European design.
  3. All bare conductors are cut so that the bare conductors are no more than 10 mm in length. This is enough to replace the plug with a new one yourself.
  4. To ensure reliable contact, bend the ends of the wires using pliers.
  5. The next step is to connect the wires correctly. Most cords have three wires. Brown - phase, yellow or green - ground, blue - zero.
  6. To prevent the plug from wobbling, it must be well fixed by clamping the wire with a plastic jumper.
  7. The final stage is to assemble the working mechanism and check its performance.

The device of the euro plug is quite simple, but during the work you need to be careful.

Replacing an old Soviet-style electrical plug

One of the most common plug designs in the USSR, designed for 220V

The old plug has an even simpler design than its predecessor. The replacement algorithm in this case is slightly different. The main stages of the replacement:

  1. The old building is dismantled and disassembled.
  2. As in the previous case, the wires are exposed. The ends are stripped 15 mm.
  3. In this case, there is no grounding, so only two wires need to be connected. It is important to observe the polarity when connecting.

The final stage is the assembly of a ready-made electrical plug.

Replacing the plugs

A plug is an electrical connector with which the plug connection is provided. With its help, it is possible to quickly connect and disconnect an electrical device using different plug contacts.

To replace the plug structure, you will need the following tools: Phillips and flat small screwdrivers, a stripper, a craft knife, and a new fork. The replacement technology is as follows:

  1. Unscrew the screw, whose task was to ensure a reliable connection of the halves of the mechanism, to disassemble it.
  2. Using a stripper, remove about 5 cm of the upper cable sheath. If the plug is equipped with a fuse, you need to select it correctly, for example, a red three-amp with a power of 720 to 3000 watts.
  3. About 12-15 mm of the braid is removed from the ends of the wire. The wires are twisted with your fingers to make the end neat and smooth. The plug is disconnected and the cable is inserted into it. The end of the latter is securely fixed with a plastic clip.

Most plug versions are equipped with special metal sockets where the bare end of the wire must be inserted. It is tightened with a miniature screw.

Adapting forks

Quite often there are electrical appliances whose plugs are not suitable for domestic outlets. In this case, there is only one solution to the problem - connecting the device through a special adapter - adapter.

Adaptation of three-pole design type IEC 60906-1

Polarized electrical plug IEC 60906-1

The distance between the pins in this configuration is 19 mm, the diameter of each pin is 4 mm, as in the C5 type. But unlike the latter, they are equipped with an additional grounding prong that will not allow you to insert the plug into the outlet.

To solve the problem, the structure is clamped in a vice and carefully so as not to damage the necessary pins, the third is cut off with a hacksaw for metal. The absence of a grounding prong will allow you to easily connect the device to the outlet.

Adaptation of the English model ВS 13-63

Such euro plugs also have three pins, but they are flat. Two of them are on the same horizontal line, they are designed to supply the supply voltage, and the third is for correct connection and grounding.

Each pin is 6.5 mm wide. The spacing between the inner planes is 16 mm, as with the C5 type.To use the mechanism, you will need to reduce the width of the pins by 2.5 mm and remove the ground. The excess is removed with a hacksaw for metal, with its help the remaining pins are grinded. This completes the adaptation, the plug can be used at home.
