After several years of operation, electrical energy metering devices must be verified by representatives of the company supplying the power supply. The frequency of verification procedures is regulated by the manufacturer (for example, the interval for Mercury 201 series devices is 16 years). When carrying out checks, repair and installation work, the owners need to imagine how to find out the number of the electricity meter. There are several ways to define it.
Serial number of the electricity meter
The easiest way to find the code you are looking for is to study the labeling of the device itself. To do this, you need to imagine where the number of the electricity meter is on its case. It is usually located on the front (front) panel of the energy meter. The desired numerical combination is determined by the presence of the “No.” sign in front of it; in most cases it includes 6 digits. Device manufacturers ("Mercury", "Cascade" and others) can place the encoding in different places on the display, depending on the specific model. Most often it is located in the lower part, under the field showing energy costs, but it can be placed on top or on the side. Thanks to this localization, the owner of the device does not have to dismantle it and remove it from the din rail to see the number. You cannot change the code, so it is recommended to write it down - the data will most likely be useful in the future.
Counter issue date
The year of manufacture must be indicated on the instrument panel - in some cases (for example, for many Neva meters) it is also indicated on the same line with the number. The full date can be found in the passport included in the set of technical documentation for the energy meter.
In addition to the actual date of issue, information may sometimes be required about when the device was connected to the network and the initial verification was performed. This can also be learned from the corresponding entry in the passport, as well as in some cases from the inscriptions on the seal.
When carrying out verification, the user is recommended to check that the date on the seal (if any) and in the passport coincide.
How to find out the number of the electricity meter
In the receipt
If the user, for some reason, could not see the number of the electricity meter on the case, a receipt for electricity payment that arrives in the mailbox every month can help. The device number is searched for on the left side of the account. It is usually six figures. More often it is placed next to the field in which data is indicated on how much electricity the consumer has consumed.
Online
To find out the data about the meter online, you can use the portal of public services or the official web office of the company supplying electricity to the apartment. In the first case, registration on the portal will be required, confirmed by a physical letter received at the post office. In the second, an account is created with confirmation via e-mail, but to create it on the sites of many suppliers, you need to indicate the personal account number and the last amount paid for electricity. After registering, the consumer can write out the device number, as well as check the readings and the presence of payment arrears.
Inspectors
Once every three months, employees of companies supplying electrical energy carry out a check on the functioning of metering devices and take readings. If the consumer needs help in finding out the device number, he can contact the specialists performing the check. When the electric meter is subjected to verification work, it is dismantled from the rail or cabinet. In the process, two copies of the act on the procedure are prepared, in which a number of characteristics of the device are recorded, including the serial number. One of the copies is handed over to the consumer of the service.
Also, the number can be recognized from the passport documentation, in which the necessary entries are made and handed out after installing the device in its original place.
At the service of the electricity supplier
The consumer can also find out the number of the device in use by contacting the service of the company that supplies electricity to his place of residence. This will require knowledge of the phone number, physical or email address of the company. Such calls are also made after the verification procedure in order to compare the number of the device connected to the network, which was returned at the end of the work, with the one recorded in the prepared documentation. Then the consumer can be sure that the representatives of the supplier did not intentionally or unintentionally replace the original device with another. In order to avoid further claims, employees of the company, after checking, must ask the user to sign the installation certificate of the device. The data indicated in it must be immediately verified with those given in the passport documentation.
In the passport of the device
The passport, along with the instruction manual, is included in the factory set of papers supplied in the box along with the device itself. The initial pages of this document contain information about the electric meter, which may be needed when carrying out repair work or for performing verification. This includes the serial number. When the purchased meter is first sealed and verified by representatives of the electricity supplier, a document is drawn up on the acceptance of the metering device into operation. The form of this document also contains information about the number.
In most cases, the serial number of the device is easy to find by finding it on the front panel. This does not require dismantling the device or looking for special documentation. If this did not work out, you can find the code in the papers and receipts associated with the meter, or by contacting the representatives of the electricity supplier.
