Methods for transferring light switches without gating

Sometimes situations arise when you need to move the switch from one place to another, but you do not want to destroy the walls. Some call professionals, and some are looking for ways to solve the problem on their own. There are several different ways to move the switch to a different location. The transfer technique in panel and brick houses is no different from each other.

Reasons for transfer

The main reason for moving is inconvenience in use, when the switch interferes with the opening of the cabinet door or the bed covers access to it. This can happen after furniture rearrangements or renovations.

Sometimes people are faced with a problem when, in order to turn on the light in the bedroom, you need to walk to the corridor. Such an arrangement is very impractical and inconvenient, therefore it is necessary to move or acquire a remote one.

With a low placement, there is a risk that the child will play with it. He can disassemble a switch, swallow small parts and get an electrical shock.

Transfer technical issues

First you need to prepare materials and tools, calculate the length of the wire, and turn off the counters. It is imperative to check the absence of current using an indicator screwdriver.

There are some standards to be followed:

• All wires must run vertically or horizontally. They cannot be laid diagonally through the wall.
• The most suitable cable section is 1.5 mm2.
• The height of the switch must be at least 60 cm from the floor. Often set according to European standards - 90 cm.

Using the loop

This method has both advantages and disadvantages. The main advantage is that it is easy and simple to do it. It is enough to lay the cable from the old switch to the new one. There will be two of them. Typically, a ribbon cable is used to move outlets.

Disadvantages are unreliable and ugly. When the apartment or house is in good repair, two switches spoil the entire appearance of the room.

If you use two switches at the same time, a short circuit may occur. If the old device breaks down, the new one also becomes inoperative.

Wire extension

The method is considered more reliable. It consists in attaching a piece of a new cable to the old one. However, here you need to make a small groove. In place of the old switch, you need to install a junction box in which the extended wires will be placed. It is better to hide this box in the wall so that it does not spoil the appearance.

To lengthen it, you need to remove the button and the body of the old switch, and make a strobe to the new puncher. Then you can connect the wires, hide them in the junction box and start installing the new switch.

Shortening of wires is possible if necessary. The work technique is similar. A two-button switch is connected in the same way as a one-button switch.

New line output

It is reliable, but not the fastest way to transfer. When the electricity is off, a strobe is made. It should be located from the junction box towards the new breaker. Wires are placed in the strobe. All holes are covered with alabaster.When all the wires are connected, all that remains is to turn on the electric current.

Connection without gating

The transfer of the circuit breaker without gating is carried out using special designs. In stores you can buy a cable channel. It looks like a long, narrow plastic box. All the wires are placed in it, and the device itself is attached to the wall. The cable duct can also be built into the skirting board.

To transfer without gouging, you do not need to destroy walls and make ugly holes. But there is one caveat - the wires inside the cable must be solid, not pieces.

What to do with the old hole

After the old switch is dismantled, the hole must be removed from it. For this, alabaster, gypsum, putty are used. The selected solution must be diluted according to the instructions and with a spatula, cover the hole.

After drying, you can paste wallpaper or hang a picture there.

How to lower the switch down the wall

There are several ways to push the switch down the wall. This can be done in any of the above ways: using a loop, lengthening the wire. It is also allowed to use the transfer method using a cable channel.

Transfer safety

Failure to observe the safety precautions may result in a short circuit, fire and electric shock. Often inexperienced electricians neglect these rules, which is why they suffer.

Be sure to de-energize the premises before starting any work with electricity. To do this, turn off the machines in the entrance and apartment. After disconnection with an indicator screwdriver, the absence of current is checked.

It is forbidden to use cables of different cross-sections. When the transfer does not calculate the load on the network, the likelihood of a short circuit is high.

When connecting aluminum to copper, be sure to use adapters. It is also not allowed to twist wires without insulation.

During work on the transfer of the switch, make sure that the children are away. It is worth considering the location of the future device. It must be out of the reach of the child.

If a cable duct is used, it must not be placed next to heating appliances, a stove or a radiator.

When installing the switch on the tile, special drills are used. It must not be exposed to water.

Failure to follow the safety precautions will result in the switch not working. This is at its best. At worst, a short circuit or electrical injury will occur, which can cost the life of a novice electrician.
