Fan pipe for sewerage as a guarantee of clean air in the house

In a country house, where there is no centralized sewage system, a septic tank is set up to collect sewage and consumed water. In order for the water in the system and in the siphons not to be sucked into the tank under the influence of vacuum, an intermediary between the septic tank and the atmosphere is built into the pipes. This link of the sewage system, which is responsible for the removal of gases, is called a waste pipe. It prevents the breakdown of the water seal and the appearance of an unpleasant odor in the room. The fan pipe is not always built in, but under certain conditions it is necessary if:

1. The house has more than one floor, each has toilets and baths.
2. The one-storey house has several bathrooms.
3. The building has risers with a diameter of fifty centimeters.
4. The site is equipped with a swimming pool, sauna and a jacuzzi.
5. The septic tank is located near the house.
6. Sewer pipes are located at a slight slope.

What is a fan pipe made of?

Cast iron and plastic are used as materials for the drain pipes. The main condition for a high-quality funnel pipe is that it must be mounted from the same material. Nowadays, cast iron pipes are rarely installed due to the difficulty of installation and the tendency of the metal to corrode. They are made from gray cast iron with the addition of lamellar graphite by centrifugal casting. Finished products are coated from the inside and outside with an anti-corrosive compound and tested for strength under strong pressure. Expensive welding is used for the connection.

Polyvinyl chloride or propylene pipes are resistant to temperature changes and aggressive environments, mechanical stress, and can be easily connected. This does not require welding or soldering, it is enough to insert one end of the pipe into the other. A rubber ring inserted into the socket serves for sealing. For the production of plastic pipes, extrusion is most often used - the most non-toxic technology. The pipes are extruded from the molten plastic by means of an extruder machine.

How is it mounted

For the efficient functioning of the waste pipe, certain conditions must be observed, namely:

1. The diameter of the pipe and the riser should not differ significantly (the most acceptable option is 110 mm).
2. It should end 30-50 cm from the roof ridge.
3. The downwind side of the building is required to establish the branch link.
4. It is allowed to connect several sewer pipes to one fan pipe.
5. Do not use remnants of the old system to avoid material heterogeneity.
6. Silicone is more reliable for sealing the joint of flexible pipes (but it is difficult to get rid of it when dismantled). For reinforcing the fasteners, metal fasteners are desirable.
7. Mineral wool and a vibration absorber can be used to protect against noise in the pipe.
8. To control the slope of the pipe and protect the premises from the ingress of gases, from birds sitting on the pipe, from the ingress of foreign objects, it will not be superfluous to install a check valve. It can be external and internal (for cleaning from all kinds of deposits).
9. It is necessary to ensure the difference in temperature and pressure, which carries out the removal of gases. To do this, the beginning of the sewage system is warm, and the end is cold.

Before directly connecting the fan pipe and the sewage system, it is necessary to install a penetration on the roof, for this you need to:

1. Penetrate the roof by removing a piece of insulation.
2. Determine the location for the hole into which the pipe is led out.

Installation process:

• A hole in the metal marks the center of the circle for outputting the pipe (a self-tapping screw is screwed in from the inside).
• For the exact connection of the pipe and the outlet, an intermediary is inserted between them - a corrugated pipe.
• The hole stencil is put on the center of the self-tapping screw, and a hole is made in the roof along its contour.
• The seal is attached using a vinegar-free and self-tapping sealant. It is intended for waterproofing (does not allow melt or rainwater to penetrate).
• The next step is to attach the base of the penetration to the roof and seal.
• A sewer grommet with a corrugated pipe is put on the passage element installed through the roof using a level and attached to the roof.
• A water seal seal is installed on the vapor barrier film from the inside.
• Fan and corrugated pipes are connected.

Installation and operating errors

With the slightest deviation from the installation rules, the expected effect from the sewer system will never be achieved. Violation of exploitation also leads to many troubles. Therefore, you should know what is a mistake during the installation and operation of the entire system:

• Connection of other types of ventilation to the fan pipe. When combined with a chimney from a boiler or stove, the pipe ignites.
• Installation near a balcony or window at a distance of less than 4 meters (all the "aroma" will get into the rooms).
• It is not intended to be exposed to a mass of snow that could break the attachment.
• Installing umbrellas above the pipe to improve the view or weather vane, as this leads to the formation of condensation.
• The risers for the drain pipe have constrictions or bends. This leads to resistance to air currents.
• A non-insulated sewer outlet is inserted, which freezes in severe frosts.
• Siphons of small volume are installed in which water dries quickly. As a result, the gases make the atmosphere of the room unfavorable without hindrance.
  
• Incorrect calculation of the volume of wastewater leads to a lack of footage of sewer pipes.
• The pipes are installed at the wrong slope (ideally - the slope of the surface for a pipe with a diameter of 110 mm should be 2 cm).
• Using the pipe for other purposes, that is, to install outside what is intended for service inside.
• Conclusion of our own sewerage system into a river or pond. Instead of saving money, you usually have to spend the budget on fines for environmental pollution.

Correct installation of the waste pipe, even with long-term inactivity of the sewage system, allows the air in the building to always remain fresh.
