Sewerage can be clogged for various reasons: as a result of fatty sediment or debris stuck, improper installation. And if the latter option requires repair, then organic blockages can be removed using the folk method. This is an effective and cost-effective sewer cleaning with baking soda and vinegar.
Preparation for cleaning
Before you clean the system with a soda-vinegar reagent, you need to check the condition of the siphons and pipes. Due to the pressure created by the chemical combination of acid and alkali, leaks can occur in weak points. If it is suspected that the blockage is caused by a foreign object, use a plunger or a special plumbing cable.
If the blockage has arisen due to deposits of fat and accumulations of organic matter, you need to prepare the following items:
- soda powder;
- table vinegar;
- pure cotton flap;
- latex gloves.
Instead of vinegar, you can use the essence diluted with water in a ratio of 1: 7.
Methods for removing clogging with a soda-vinegar mixture
The interaction of the acidic ingredient with soda causes a violent reaction, which contributes to the high-quality cleaning of the pipeline. The procedure is easy:
- Wearing rubber gloves, pour half a packet of sodium bicarbonate into the drain.
- Pour the same amount of vinegar after the baking soda.
- Close the drain plug for two hours.
- Remove the plug and fill the system with hot water.
You can flush the sewer through any drain hole: in the toilet, in the bathroom, in the sink, even in the inspection hatch. It must be remembered that when the active components are mixed, a large amount of foam is formed, which can be thrown out. As a consequence, to clean the line with a mixture of baking soda and vinegar, you will need a tight fitting plug that can be made from a clean cotton cloth.
If there is no vinegar in the house, table salt is used as a soda activator. Cleaning a drain with a baking soda and salt mixture is simple and safe, but not as effective as the vinegar option. Stir the components in equal proportions, then pour the resulting mixture into the drain hole and pour a liter or two of boiling water there. It is best to do the work late in the evening so that the system is not in use for several hours.
They clean sewer drains and just soda if the blockage is insignificant and only slows down the flow of water. A pack of sodium bicarbonate is poured and filled with three glasses of boiling water. This should be done three times, repeating the procedures every hour.
Application of caustic soda
The substance, also called caustic soda, is different from plain baking soda and soda ash. Combined with an acidic activator, it can remove even tough congestion.
Cleaning a sewer pipe with caustic soda and vinegar:
- 20 ml of vinegar or the same amount of diluted citric acid is poured into the pipeline.
- Pour 40 g of dry caustic. The substances will enter into a reaction, which will be noticeable when a large amount of foam appears.
- When the foam subsides a little, plug the drain hole with a plug or a rag roller.
- After two hours, rinse with lukewarm water under high pressure.
It is undesirable to clean plastic sewer pipes with this method - a caustic solution can damage the polymer layer inside the line. It is best to use baking soda for these systems. For metal sewers, caustic is quite suitable.Caustic soda in combination with acid will dissolve the blockage and remove plaque. It will also smooth out irregularities on the inner surfaces of pipe sections to prevent deposits. The number of components must be accurate, because the effect of the composition is long-term. The reaction goes on for some time and after flushing.
Toilet baking soda and vinegar
With the help of a soda-vinegar solution, you can not only dissolve the blockage, but also remove lime and rusty deposits from the toilet. For this, half a glass of food powder is poured into the bowl of a plumbing fixture. Pour vinegar next. The inner surface of the bowl is treated evenly. After 30 minutes, clean with a brush and drain the water several times.
If a strong vinegar smell isn't a problem, there is another method you can try. A glass of vinegar is poured over the surface of the toilet bowl. After 30 minutes, moisten the brush with water, sprinkle with soda powder and clean the toilet. Perform the procedure until the stains are completely removed.
They clean sewer systems with a soda-vinegar mixture and for preventive purposes. The acid-base composition helps to remove accumulated fat and disinfect, get rid of an unpleasant odor. But such techniques do not save in case of deep clogging and technological problems. This will require a mechanical or hydrodynamic cleaning of the line.
