Mechanical methods for cleaning a cesspool

Cleaning the cesspools is an unpleasant but necessary procedure. Each summer resident or just the owner of a country house copes with it in his own way. Someone does all the work on their own, while others involve specialists and equipment from outside. In this article, we will consider exclusively mechanical cleaning methods, which have their own advantages over chemical ones.

Cleaning methods

All cesspool cleaning methods can be divided into 2 categories:

  • mechanical (manually, using a pump or a sewage machine);
  • chemical (using biological products).

Consider mechanical methods, which, by the way, are more effective than chemical ones. The use of biological products delays the moment of mechanical cleaning, however, it has a number of its advantages, for example, it effectively eliminates odor. In addition, the biological method makes mechanical cleaning easier and faster.

Cleaning by pump

If you do not want to involve outside experts, but want to effectively clean the cesspool, use the pump method. This method will require some preparation. In particular, you will need a large capacity for pumping waste and transport, with which you can take everything out of the site. However, this method has its advantages:

  • modern pumps have special floats, thanks to which cleaning can be carried out autonomously;
  • By submerging the pump and hose in a sump, you no longer need to monitor it. In the middle of the float there is a metal ball, which, when rolled down, opens the chain and turns off the device. This not only saves you time, but also extends the life of the pump by preventing it from idling;
  • many models of pumps for cleaning waste pits have a chopping mechanism.

The pit cleaning scheme when using the pump is as follows:

  1. Pump out the bulk of the fluid. Leave a quarter of the volume in the tank.
  2. Rinse the walls of the pit with a strong pressure of water and beat up the silt at the bottom. This will help the pump to draw the impurities to the outside.
  3. Pump out the rest of the waste completely.
  4. Rinse waste storage again with water.
  5. In the cesspool, update the bottom filter.

The sewage must be pumped out into a sealed container, which is then removed and disposed of. For this, there are special areas for the disposal of liquid toxic waste.

Cleaning with a suction truck

The easiest way is, of course, to seek professional help. The pros and cons of this method are obvious.

Professional vacuum cleaners have the necessary equipment, tools and skills to run the process quickly and efficiently. Each cleaning machine is equipped with a specific set of equipment. Thus, your cesspool will not only be emptied of sewage, but also taken out of the site.

Another advantage is that you don't have to do the dirty work yourself, which is not particularly enjoyable. The whole process is 100 percent automated, and you only need to manually control the car from a distance, and even then - you will not be doing this.

The disadvantages of this method include the cost of the service. It is not transcendental, but not cheap either. Some owners skimp on the services of sewers. In addition, the owner of the site is obliged to ensure the access of the sewage truck to the cesspool, which is not always easy to do.

Another drawback is that after applying this method of cleansing, the soil begins to absorb water worse.Accordingly, with each week and month it will be necessary to pump out sewage more often.

Sewage pumping by a sewage machine is carried out as follows:

  1. The site owner chooses a company that specializes in these services. Please note that the company has all the necessary certificates that allow you to remove and dispose of waste.
  2. The arrived car (another name is a sludge pump) must have all the necessary equipment: a vacuum pump, a tank, several control systems and a suction boom. If necessary, the machine can be completed with other equipment.
  3. The whole process is automated. Waste unloading takes place by tipping the tank.

If the pit is not used too actively and irregularly, then you can call a special vehicle infrequently - about once a month. However, if several people permanently live in the house, who regularly use water-consuming devices, then the sewage truck will have to be called almost weekly.

DIY emergency cleaning

Some owners of private houses prefer to pump waste water on their own, without even using a pump. They use buckets and ropes. Of course, this method has a right to exist, but it is fraught with the following negative consequences:

  • the sewer smell will spread very quickly throughout the site;
  • self-cleaning of the cesspool is quite laborious and requires a lot of time;
  • the pumped out waste must be disposed of somewhere.

Also, make sure you don't manually remove all of the waste from the pit. At a minimum, they will remain at the bottom and walls of the cesspool.

On the other hand, with the "old-fashioned" method of cleaning the cesspool, you will have to take care of your own safety. It is important to consider personal protective equipment such as closed clothing, respirator and gloves. The mask will help keep the airways from corroding, and the gloves will keep your hands free of irritants. Fecal masses are toxic, therefore it is necessary to avoid splashing on open skin and mucous membranes. Since sewage waste emits toxic fumes, be sure to open the pit for ventilation for several days before starting work.

The manual cleaning process is quite simple:

  1. Tie the bucket tightly onto the rope and scoop out the contents of the hole until you reach the bottom.
  2. Lead a hose to the open well and blow off the walls and bottom in the pit with a jet of water under pressure. This will help knock off hard and greasy deposits.
  3. Then one person goes down to the bottom and carefully scoops out the remaining contents.
  4. Upstairs, an assistant (or several) awaits him, who take the container and pour the contents into a container prepared for waste.
  5. It is necessary to clean the bottom of the pit well, so that after cleaning it is necessary to add a layer of fine and coarse gravel. Otherwise, silting will become a constant problem.

The advantages of this method include its low economic cost - in addition to a bucket and a rope, you only need a shovel. No need to spend money on buying a pump or calling a sewer truck. However, the effectiveness of the method is extremely low, so after a while you will probably still turn to another method of mechanical cleaning.

Output

The choice of the method for cleaning the drainage pit depends, firstly, on the frequency of using the sewage system, and secondly, on the nature of the effluent. For pumping wastewater, it is more profitable to use a mechanical method - using a sewage machine or a fecal pump. If you want to save money, you can start cleaning the pit manually, but this is not a very pleasant, time-consuming and energy-intensive process.
