Cesspools are equipped to remove human waste products in summer cottages or land plots with small private houses. The construction of this kind of treatment facilities does not take much time and does not require large expenditures. As a rule, special services are called to clean the cesspools, but it also happens that the place where the septic tank is arranged does not allow special equipment to drive up and pump out the sewage, or this method is not beneficial to the owner of the house. Then chemical and biological agents should be used to clean the cesspool without pumping out.
Biological preparations
Many owners of private farmsteads have come across a mechanical method of cleaning a cesspool or a country toilet and know firsthand how unpleasant this task is. Most of them preferred to pumping out biological products, the advantages of which are obvious:
- Under the influence of bacteria, waste products turn into a harmless substance.
- Fecal masses decrease in volume.
- The smell disappears.
- The resulting mass is an excellent fertilizer for garden plants.
Features in use
The composition of such funds includes cultured (artificially grown in the laboratory) bacteria. Their features:
- Unlike microorganisms that develop in nature, they cannot adapt to extreme conditions.
- They do not tolerate low temperatures and contact with household chemicals.
- To ensure normal life, a liquid medium is needed.
- When the contents of the cesspool dries out, the cultured bacteria die.
Regular use of biological agents makes it possible to do without pumping out the contents of the cesspool, where household chemicals do not fall. The drugs are effective in the warm season.
The most effective biological products
These include "Bioexpert", "Ecorecycle", "Sanfor Bioactivator", "Bioactivator Living Bacteria Biosept". The listed biological products are safe for insects, animals and humans.
Bioexpert is available in the form of effervescent tablets. It contains selective microorganisms, enzymes, minerals. Removes deposits of detergents, greasy deposits, eliminates unpleasant odors. Suitable for septic tanks and cesspools. In tanks with a volume of up to three cubic meters, 1 tablet per month is enough to achieve the desired effect. For cesspools, bacteria must be activated by dissolving the tablet in 5-7 liters of water.
Ecorecycle is a universal product for cleaning septic tanks and cesspools. Available in powder form. Reduces sediment volume, neutralizes sewage odors. Effective only in organic environments. Not suitable for waste pits where household chemicals enter. One bag (75 g) is enough for a month with a pit volume of 2 cubic meters.
Sanfor Bioactivator. It contains wheat bran (30%), cultured microorganisms (5%), sodium bicarbonate (65%). The drug removes unpleasant odors, fat and fecal deposits, accumulations of phenols and cellulose. A package weighing 40 g is valid for a month and reduces the contents of the sump by 30%.
"Bioactivator Living Bacteria Biosept" is produced in the form of granules and powder. It takes effect 2 hours after entering the sewage system (flushing water in toilets, sinks, shower stalls or bathtubs).Decomposes fecal matter and toilet paper residues, removes greasy deposits and soap deposits from detergents. Frequency of use - 1 dose (25 g sachet) in 2 weeks.
The instructions attached to any of them will help to choose the right drug, which will indicate the type of suitable cesspool.
Chemicals
Used for cleaning septic tanks and outdoor toilets for a long time. The most commonly used drugs were formaldehyde. However, it is highly toxic, hazardous to human and animal health, and harmful to the environment, therefore it has been banned since the end of the 20th century.
Among modern chemical agents for cleaning and disinfecting cesspools, preparations are widely used based on:
- ammonium compounds;
- nitrogen (nitrate) oxidants.
The first refers to budgetary funds for cleaning septic tanks. They are not as toxic as formaldehyde, but they are still hazardous to human health and the environment. The latter are recognized as the safest. In composition, these cleaning agents are close to nitrogen fertilizers, which are used in agriculture.
Application features
Cons of ammonium compounds:
- The substance obtained as a result of processing with the use of chemical cleaners based on ammonium compounds cannot be used for fertilizing agricultural crops.
- The effectiveness of such drugs is noticeably reduced when interacting with household detergents.
Nitrogen oxidizers have only one drawback - the high price. There are much more advantages:
- do not lose their effectiveness when combined with household chemicals.
- copes well with the decomposition of biological inclusions;
- neutralize unpleasant odors.
These cleaners are used to dissolve sludge and particulate matter in cesspools and neutralize harmful bacteria.
The most effective chemicals
Products based on Devon nitrate oxidants - "Devon-N" and "Devon-Il", are widely used. After using them, a safe liquid is obtained that can be poured into a compost heap.
"Devon-N" is a versatile broad-spectrum agent. Supplied in disposable bags weighing 30 g and liquid in containers with different volumes (0.25, 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 l). Benefits:
- effectively eliminates unpleasant odors;
- does not lose its properties at subzero temperatures;
- does not contain alkalis, acids, formaldehyde, quaternary ammonium compounds;
- liquefies fecal matter, while reducing the volume of the contents of the cesspools.
The most convenient preparation is in the form of a powder. To remove the smell of impurities, the contents of two sachets (60 g) are diluted in a liter of warm water and the surface of the cesspool is irrigated using a watering can. This amount is sufficient for a tank with a surface area of 2-3 m2. Valid for 2 to 4 weeks.
"Devon-Il" is a preparation for eliminating silting and blockages in septic tanks, cesspools and cesspools. It is produced in the form of a concentrated liquid in 1.5 liter containers. Benefits:
- removes the smell of impurities;
- not afraid of low temperatures;
- environmentally friendly.
For the prevention of blockages and silting in the absence of odors: 50-100 ml of the product into the toilet or sink once a month. If an unpleasant odor is present, the same amount is poured every week.
Detailed instructions are attached to the described preparations. It must be carefully examined before use.
When cleaning is needed
It is not always possible to cope with the masses in the cesspool with chemical and biological preparations:
- With improperly installed drain pipes (when they are located too low), sludge deposits clog the drain, resulting in a blockage.
- If liquid waste from the bath and kitchen is poured into the pit, in which there are synthetic detergents. Most drugs don't work with them.
Signs of an overflow sump:
- Bad smell next to her.
- Slowing down the drainage of water from the toilet, sinks, sinks.
- Flies appear nearby.
If the symptoms described above are observed, emergency cleaning is required - it is recommended to call a vacuum cleaner.
Prophylaxis
When arranging cesspools and septic tanks, it is necessary to correctly calculate their total volume in accordance with the number of people living in the house and the intensity of sewage use. During operation, errors may "pop up" due to which you have to call special services to download the content.
So that the problem with the overflow of the septic tank does not arise in the future, it is necessary, after cleaning, to regularly prevent blockages:
- Rinse the hole with a high pressure of water every two months.
- Use biologics during warmer months to reduce solid waste.
- If the country house is intended for year-round use, equip the tank with thermal insulation. This will prevent the freezing of the sewage masses.
It is quite possible to clean the cesspool without resorting to the services of a sewer. Use biological or chemical special preparations for this. Read the instructions carefully before use. Biological agents allow the use of processed fecal matter in the garden as a complete fertilizer.
In a working urban-type settlement, the geologists' base was not connected to the sewerage network, it was located on the side of a mountain. One day it was time to clean up the collective outhouse. The boss allocated good money, but no one agrees, the amount was doubled, and still there are no volunteers, and when the remuneration was increased, one volunteered. Everyone began to tease him, wrinkle their nose contemptuously. This guy, making sure that he would not be deceived, hired a sewer truck, poured in several cubes of water, and with such a “makar” completed the work in a few steps. Now, with good money, he laughed and mocked others, calling them empty-headed.
