Autonomous sewerage in a suburban area is a collector, plumbing points in the house and the main sink for drains. Often its role is played by a banal cesspool. It takes on the entire volume of impurities, periodically filling up. Experienced craftsmen got used to cleaning the toilet in the country with a cesspool without pumping out. This saves the family budget.
The need for periodic cleaning of cesspools
The main difference between a standard pit and a septic tank is the absence of a filtering bottom in it. This means that the effluent is accumulated and stored in the tank unchanged. At the same time, it is not so much the volume of sewage that threatens to overflow outside the pit that is terrible, but its composition. Sewage effluent is a mixture of ammonia, methane and hydrogen sulphide. This combination poses a serious threat to human health and life. Runoff can enter the body as vapor and seep as a liquid into the soil. From there they feed groundwater, vegetables, etc. As a result, a complex poisoning of the body occurs.
In addition to the dangerous influence of impurities, a fetid odor is worth noting. It gives a fair amount of discomfort, is absorbed into hair, clothes, household items.
How to understand that it's time to clean the cesspool
The fact that it is time to clean the septic tank and cesspool with folk remedies is evidenced by the following signs:
- slow outflow of water into the drain of the sink, bathtub, toilet;
- characteristic gurgling sounds in the sewer;
- the appearance of a specific smell in the house and on the site.
You can confirm your concerns by looking under the cesspool lid. If it is more than 2/3 full, it is time to empty the tank from impurities.
Effective cleaning methods
You can get rid of wastewater in the receiving tank in one of the popular ways:
- mechanical cleaning;
- use of a fecal pump or sludge (sewer);
- the use of bacterial drugs;
- chemical treatment of sewage.
Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages.
Mechanical cleaning
It implies the collection of sewage from the pit with a bucket. In the future, the effluent must be loaded into a separate tank and taken out for disposal. The advantage of this method is cost savings on professional equipment. The disadvantages include:
- Labor cost. You cannot cope with the task alone. We'll have to call a neighbor or friend.
- Adverse health effects of waste gases. Sometimes fumes of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide lead to loss of consciousness.
- The need to purchase overalls.
The process of manual (mechanical) cleaning of the receiver itself is unpleasant. This measure is taken only as a last resort, with a small filling of the pit.
Often, in order not to clean the hole, summer residents simply dig a new one, if the perimeter of the site allows. This measure is used when the walls of the receiver are heavily silted up, when it is impossible to remove fat from its walls. But the old pit must be pumped out and filled up.
Sewage pumping
At least a fecal pump comes to the rescue. Vodogray and Grundfus have proven themselves well. They are equipped with cutting elements that grind fecal matter, debris into a homogeneous mixture.The pumping of waste water by means of a pump allows the drain tank to be emptied. But the sewage still needs to be loaded somewhere and taken out for disposal. Therefore, the effectiveness of this method remains questionable. Although the pumps are quite efficient for these purposes.
If a sludge pump (sewage machine) is used for cleaning liquid waste (liquid household waste), the owner of the receiver relieves all worries about the disposal of sewage. As a rule, the operator of the special equipment pumps out the wastewater into the tank of the car and takes it out to a special place. The whole process takes up to 40 minutes (for a pit with a volume of 4-6 m3).
When ordering a vacuum cleaner, you need to familiarize yourself with the permits from the driver. They give the right to this type of activity and further disposal of wastewater.
Use of biologics
Bacteria are one of the most effective ways to clean a drain. Under certain conditions (temperature above +7, the presence of yeast and sugar for the reaction, a constant flow of water), biological products actively decompose wastewater into water and organic sludge. As a result, a foul-smelling smell does not come from the pit, water is easier to pump out of it, and organic sludge can be used as compost.
If the pit has a drainage bottom, water will seep freely into the ground. All that remains is to regularly remove sludge from the receiver.
It must be remembered that biological products do not work in the cold and completely neutralize their activity when chemical household waste enters the pit: detergents, powders, cleaning products, shampoos, etc. Bacteria work as actively as possible in a country street closet. It is enough to pour the required amount of funds into the cesspool of the toilet for processing feces. The result will be visible in 1-2 weeks.
Chemicals for the processing of sewage
If water with an admixture of household chemicals flows into the cesspool, it is advisable to use chemical preparations for the treatment of dirty water. They are classified by type:
- Nitrate oxidants. They have surfactants in their composition. As a result, they are inert towards detergents in the effluent.
- Bleaching powder. It actively decomposes wastewater, but has a negative effect on the human body when its particles get into the soil. Today bleach is rarely used.
- Ammonium compounds. Chemicals of medium intensity, moreover, they do not work well in sewage with an admixture of household chemicals.
If it is decided to use ammonium compounds, the water from the processed wastewater should never be poured onto the soil. It is better to call special equipment for its pumping and further disposal. In addition, chemicals harm the metal elements of the collector, if there are any in the pit.
How to reduce the frequency of servicing the receiver
To save money on the services of a sewer, it makes sense to improve the sewer receiver: to build a two-chamber septic tank on the site. It is also called an overflow pit. Acts on the following principle:
- The first sealed chamber with a sealed bottom and walls absorbs all impurities. This is where the effluent settles. All heavy debris settles to the bottom, light debris rises to the top.
- Clarified water is poured into a second chamber with a drainage bottom. Here you can actively use biological products that will purify water. In the future, the liquid will go into the ground through the drainage pad.
As a result of such a septic tank device, a larger volume of water simply oozes into the soil. Odorless organic sludge settles to the bottom. All that remains is to remove it at least once a year into a special trench.
A three-chamber septic tank is more effective. The level of wastewater treatment in it is close to 97%. The water can then be used for irrigation.
Sump cleaning cost
The prices for cleaning a cesspool in a private house depend on the way it is processed.
- Sludge suction machine - from 1800 rubles / hour of work;
- biological preparations - from 120 rubles. for 100 grams of funds;
- chemicals - 1,000-1,500 rubles. per bottle of 500 ml.
A pit with an average volume of 4-6 m3 will require several packs of biological products or chemicals.
