A flat roof is more prone to the negative impact of atmospheric precipitation (rain, melt water). The only solution in this situation was the use of an internal drainage system. It is often equipped with TechnoNicol flat roof drains. Due to the convenient design of the element, the liquid, heading towards it at a slight slope, flows freely downward.
Description and scope
Structurally, an element of the drainage system is a hollow pipe section with a length of 160 or 450 mm, equipped with an upper receiver. Additionally, the funnel is equipped with a mesh that protects the drainage system from debris (leaves, branches, etc.) getting into it. For simpler and more convenient installation, the water intake elements are equipped with a crimp flange. A special heating system prevents water from freezing in pipes and funnel in winter.
Use the TechnoNikol funnel for internal gutters exclusively on a flat roof. Heated models are designed for installation on the roofs of cold, non-insulated buildings. Without exception, all flat funnels contribute to the collection and drainage of rain / snow water from the roof into the internal drainage pipes.

For roofs with parapet, at least two roof outlets must be used.
Types of funnels TechnoNicol
There are several models of water intake components for the internal drainage system on the market.
Funnel TechnoNicol VB 110
The model is made from a copolymer of propylene and ethylene. Durable, resistant to aggressive environments and temperature extremes, the material can serve up to 25 years. The VB 110 funnel, like all other models, is equipped with a snap-on leaf catcher.
Specifications:
- height - 160 or 450 mm;
- internal intake section - 100-110 mm;
- weight - 0.8 and 1 kg, depending on the height of the product;
- flange section - 450 mm;
- funnel throughput - 7.8 l / sec.
For resistance to UV radiation, special protective additives are included in the polymer.
Funnel TechnoNicol 110 with compression flange
The model is structurally similar to the previous one, but is additionally equipped with a stainless steel crimp flange. It is possible to connect a heating system in case the pipes of the internal drainage system are located along the facade of the building.
Technical characteristics of the funnel with a compression flange:
- bore pipe diameter - 110 mm;
- product height - 450 mm;
- throughput - 7.8 l / sec.
A funnel with or without a crimped steel flange is installed on the roof at the rate of 1 cm2 of the sectional area of the element for every 0.75 m2 of the roof area.
Funnel with clamping flange and heating (VFO)
It has characteristics similar to the previous models: height, diameter, throughput. The compression flange is also made of stainless steel. Product color - black. For more reliable operation of the system, preventing its freezing at subzero temperatures, the element is supplemented with electric heating. It is connected to the building's power system.
Installation steps
When arranging funnels on the roof, you should adhere to the rules and recommendations established by SNiP 06-2009 (revised by SP 118.13330.2012):
- the distance from the funnel to the nearest parapet / wall is at least 50 cm;
- at least two water intake elements must be installed on a roof with a fencing structure;
- installation of funnels is carried out in the smallest places in height;
- before installing the products, you must first divide the roof into rhombuses and properly lay the insulation, roll roofing material with a slope towards their center.
Otherwise, the installation of funnels is performed as follows:
- After carrying out the roofing work, the lower part of the water intake element is joined to the drainpipe. The fasteners should not be made very rigid so that the material does not deform during thermal expansion.
- Place the O-ring over the waterproofing material.
- Mount the top of the funnel. It is located on top of the waterproofing. Additionally, the upper part is fixed with bituminous mastic.
- After completing the installation work, install a protective grille.
The flat roof drainage system should be regularly inspected to ensure it is functioning and free of debris. A sudden downpour can lead to a collapse of the roof if the communication is faulty.
The correct installation of the funnels is checked by spilling a pair of buckets of water two to three meters from the mounted elements. If the liquid leaves quickly and freely, the work has been carried out correctly.
Advantages and disadvantages
The main positive features of TechnoNicol funnels are as follows:
- Product design. Due to the fact that the funnels are made of two abutting elements, it is possible to prevent their possible deformation during movements of the insulation and the waterproofing layer under the influence of temperature changes.
- The material is not subject to corrosion, which is important for the long-term operation of the system.

- The inertness of the product to sunlight.
- Resistance of the polymer to aggressive environments, which are necessarily present in sediments.
- The funnel is universal in use - suitable for any buildings with a flat roof.
- The presence of a leaf trap protects the drainage system from blockages.
- Compatible with a variety of soft flat roof roofing materials (including membrane).
- The ability to reliably drain water even in cold weather due to the heating system.
- The low weight does not make the overall roof structure heavier.
- Ease of installation - the element can be installed by one specialist.
In addition, the price of the product for the Russian consumer is quite acceptable.
The cost of drainage funnels
Prices for TechnoNikol drain funnels with a diameter of 100 mm may vary slightly depending on the region of its sales. On average in the Moscow region, the cost is as follows:
- funnel with a crimp flange - RUB 5,035;
- product with a heating system - 6 611 rubles;
- funnel VB 110 and 450 - from 900 rubles.
A properly installed internal drainage system helps to maintain the strength of the building, reduces the negative impact of moisture on it. The external drainage system TechnoNikol with gutters and downspouts is also in high demand among Russian craftsmen when installing a pitched roof.
