Connecting the air conditioner to the mains has some peculiarities. It is best to entrust the work to professionals. But even experienced DIYers with knowledge of electricity can handle the challenge.
How to connect the air conditioner to the mains
The best option for connecting the air conditioner to the mains is the make-up from a dedicated machine. It is installed in the switchboard, if there is no free one. The amperage of the machine is selected depending on the power of the climatic equipment and is calculated using the following formula:
- the power of the air conditioner is divided by the voltage (220 volts), the resulting figure is increased by 30% as a margin.
Before connecting the air conditioner to the mains, you need to select the cross-section of the wires. This is done taking into account the current strength:
- with a current strength below 18 amperes, a cable cross-section of 1.5 square meters is selected. millimeters;
- with a current strength of 18 to 25 amperes, the cross section is selected to be 2.5 sq. millimeters.
The connection diagram of the air conditioner to the mains implies the use of only copper, three-core cables, since the air conditioners are necessarily grounded.
Air conditioner connection diagram to the power grid
A phase cable (usually brown or red) is attached to the machine. The blue power cable is connected to zero on the shield. Responsible for grounding is a yellow and green cable, which is connected to the grounding terminal.
Old houses are not equipped with grounding shields.
Therefore, it is necessary to insert a residual current device or RCD into the connection diagram of the air conditioner to the mains. This is a circuit breaker combined with a differential switch. As soon as a small amount of current flows to the ground wire, the automation switches off the current supply.
Air conditioner wiring
The power line is drawn in the closest way from the panel to the air conditioner. Before connecting the air conditioner to the mains, it is important to consider ensuring the safety of others: the wire is laid in a groove cut out in the wall or covered with a protective box.
This prevents damage and human access to bare wires. The cable is carefully attached with special clamps. The box carries, among other things, an aesthetic load, making the wiring less noticeable.
Wires of the corresponding colors come out of the air conditioner case, to which the cable is connected, taking into account the colors and using terminal blocks.
