The door to the street in a private house must be chosen especially carefully. Compared to apartment buildings, the situation here is complicated by the fact that the structure is constantly exposed to weather factors. This can turn into such unpleasant consequences as the appearance of ice, the accumulation of condensed moisture, and corrosion phenomena.
Basic parameters when choosing an entrance door to a private house
When choosing an entrance door to a private house, you must make sure that it is equipped with all the required mechanisms to prevent intruders from entering. The structure should have several locks, a door peephole, as well as protective blocks on the inside (for example, a latch). In addition, attention is drawn to the following points:
- strength of the canvas, resistance to mechanical stress;
- good tolerance of climate factors characteristic of the area;
- thermal insulation qualities that contribute to maintaining a comfortable microclimate for residents;
- the ability to protect the indoor environment from street sounds (noise insulation);
- sufficient service life.
The door must harmoniously fit into the design of the building and have high-quality fittings.
The installation of the structure should be carried out so that the canvas moves outward when opening. In this case, it will be more difficult for intruders to knock out the door, and residents will be able to quickly leave the building in the event of a fire or other unforeseen incident. When opened, the canvas will not "eat up" the usable area inside the house.
Varieties of entrance doors
To choose the entrance doors to a private house, you need to have an idea of the types of paintings found on the market. Their different types are distinguished by the strengthening of certain protective functions.
Sealed
Typically, such canvases are mounted in special-purpose rooms where air control is maintained. This includes, for example, food blocks, operating rooms, laboratories. For residential buildings, such doors are usually not chosen.
Fireproof
On such canvases, locks are often mounted that are opened from the inside without a key. Thanks to this mechanism, it will be easier for residents to leave the building in the event of an emergency.
Soundproof
Since thermal insulation, as a rule, has a higher priority for the owner of a private house than protection from street noise, such a door is not often sought to be installed. Structures are supplied with gaskets made of special materials - as a rule, it is mineral wool or polyurethane.
Shockproof
This class includes any canvas that is characterized by high strength. The best indicators for this criterion are products from steel sheets of sufficient thickness.
Bulletproof
Armored burglar-resistant structures provide the best protection. A concrete mixture can be poured inside, providing bulletproofness. Also, safe-type locks are often placed on the product. The premises where such a door is mounted are supplied with other protective equipment. These include surveillance cameras, panic buttons, alarms.
Design features
The material for the production of canvases can be metal, wood or metal-plastic. Wooden doors are inferior to the rest of the options in terms of strength, but for a house, the design solution of which has this, such a design would be quite a suitable choice. The main thing is that it is equipped with a sufficient number of locks and other protective mechanisms. The greatest strength is possessed by canvases made of oak or larch massif. On sale you can also find panel and panel structures. The canvas must be treated with fire retardant and antiseptic impregnations to prevent fire and decay. It is also advisable to equip a visor or a canopy over the door block so that precipitation falls on the surface less often.
Iron sheets are the strongest and toughest. The thickness of the steel sheet used for the manufacture of the door must be at least 1.2 mm. At lower values, an attacker will be able to cut through the canvas with a can opener. The system is reinforced from the inside with stiffeners. Several configuration options are possible - having only horizontal or vertical parts, or both. Longitudinal ribs are needed to resist torsional loads. These system components do not allow the web corners to bend. Horizontal ribs prevent the door from being pushed through and detached from the frame. But the most reliable is the system that combines both types of ribs. Sometimes designs include two canvases - external and internal. The system components are connected to each other by means of spot welding. The box must be made of steel of sufficient thickness (3-5 mm).
Metal-plastic products are based on a PVC profile with five chambers. It is not recommended to purchase models with a smaller number of cameras, as well as a thickness not reaching 7 cm. The structure is reinforced with a reinforcing metal frame mounted on the inside and equipped with corner brackets that make the frame more rigid. This structure of the system allows the installation of strong hinges and burglar-resistant locks. Sometimes these doors are provided with glazing. In this case, instead of regular packages, triplex or booking is used. This makes the web stronger and protects it from damage.
The area of the glazed fragment of the outer door should not exceed one third of the total. A rubber seal is mounted around the frame, providing protection from moisture and minimizing heat loss.
Top manufacturers
A large number of doors from Russian and foreign manufacturers are presented on the market. When choosing a metal structure, you should be wary of products from China, since the canvas in such cases is often not thick enough. It will not be difficult for an attacker to cut through it with improvised means.
Durable alloy steel doors are manufactured by the Polish company Gerda. The design has 7 stiffening ribs and 3 hinges, well protected from knocking out. Bank locks are equipped with armored patches. Each hinge can support up to 150 kg. External finishing can be made of solid wood or veneer. There is also a powder coating option.
Wippro is a company from Austria that uses solid wood, glued wood and metal parts in the production of doors. Mineral wool is also used as a filler. A seal is mounted along the contour of the structure. The door can be equipped with an electric drive mechanism for remote opening.
The German company Fortus implements orders for the production of canvases in accordance with the wishes of customers. The buyer is invited to choose the design parameters: the structure of the locks and their resistance to burglary, the base material, finishing, fittings and a number of others.
Protection against penetration of unauthorized persons
The degree of security of the structure is influenced by the number of locks, their structure, the availability of methods of closing from the inside, not tied to the use of the key, as well as the type of hinges.There are several of the latter: simple, ball, safe. The most reliable ones are those with a support bearing. The number of loops is determined by the structural features of the canvas (size, thickness, type of finish). Even a structure with a low weight should have at least 3 hinge elements. Better if they are not accessible from the outside.
Metal canvases must be equipped with one or two pairs of strong anti-detachable pins. They are mounted in the end part from the hinge side.
