Ceiling cladding with plastic panels is a popular type of decoration, which is justified by a number of positive properties of the material itself and the structures assembled from it. Even a novice master can easily hem the ceiling with plastic with his own hands. The quality of the final result directly depends on the correct choice and handling of the finish.
Varieties of plastic panels and their features
The trade network presents an extensive range of PVC products, differing in appearance and in the order of attachment to the base. The device is common to all products. The slabs consist of two plates connected by bridges that serve as stiffeners.
There are the following criteria for choosing a finish:
- By connection. Sectional lamellas are joined into grooves, the seam is practically invisible and is 0.1-0.3 mm. Clapboard models are also assembled according to the thorn-groove system, but between them there is a longitudinal groove up to 10 mm wide. Sheet products are produced in the form of squares and rectangles with a side size of up to 250 cm. They are butt-connected directly or using a profile.
- By color scheme. Reiki can have a single color, stains, patterns and even pictures. The content is applied using the technology of thermal translation, offset printing and lamination.
- By form. The width of the plastic cladding varies between 10-60 cm. The wall covering is 8-12 mm thick, and the ceiling covering is 4-8 mm thick. The standard lengths are 300, 595 and 1200 cm.
For the convenience of assembling plastic ceilings, manufacturers produce connecting, corner and starting profiles.
Benefits of plastic panels
The panels have a sufficient number of advantages that have not gone unnoticed by consumers:
- lightness due to the hollow honeycomb structure;
- ease of transportation, handling and installation;
- ecological cleanliness and safety;
- high speed of installation;
- water resistance;
- good insulating characteristics;
- sufficient strength for pressure and bending;
- lack of complex care and maintenance;
- affordable cost;
- a wide range of textures and colors.
One of the positive aspects is the minimum amount of preparatory work, the possibility of frame and glue assembly.
Difference between wall and ceiling panels
Wall models are characterized by thicker plates and frequent stiffening ribs. In most cases, their length is limited to 300 cm. The flexibility of the products is low, but the ability to withstand mechanical stress is higher.
Ceiling panels are thinner, lighter, and much less resistant to pressure. They are made wider to improve the aesthetic aspect of the assembled shield.
Material calculation
Conducting competent calculations contributes to the minimum amount of waste after the end of the work. The lack of material during the plating will not be the most pleasant for the master. Worst of all, if the panels of the required model are not on sale and you have to select something similar.
There are two methods for determining the need for plastic:
- Mathematical. The ceiling area is divided by the panel parameter, rounded up.However, trims are not taken into account here, without which no repairs can do.
- Schematic. A drawing is drawn up to scale, where each element of the masonry is applied.
In all cases, it is recommended to have a reserve of up to 15% of the calculated quantity to cover errors and accidental damage to the material.
Preparatory work
In order to qualitatively sheathe the ceiling with plastic panels, a number of preparatory measures should be taken:
- Remove communications, lighting fixtures and the old coating from the base plate, if necessary.
- Remove loose fragments from the surface, seal holes and cracks, treat the base with an antiseptic.
- Take measurements, find the lowest angle and step back from it at a certain distance.
- Draw a horizontal line along the control point. A reference or starting profile will be installed along it.
You will need such devices and materials:
- level, square, tape measure, iron ruler, marker;
- stationery knife;
- saw for metal;
- puncher;
- screwdriver;
- miter box;
- plywood sheet;
- stapler;
- self-tapping screws 19 mm;
- frame material (timber, steel or plastic);
- starting or decorative profile.
Installation is recommended in a construction helmet, goggles and gloves. You need a high-quality solid step-ladder.
Headliner instructions
It is necessary to sheathe the ceiling with plastic in a certain sequence, without missing a single stage.
- Make a frame. For narrow rooms up to 100 cm wide, perimeter strips are sufficient. In large rooms, it is necessary to make transverse load-bearing jumpers, using vertical suspensions for their fastening.
- Fasten the starting profile on three sides by connecting it at an angle of 45 degrees.
- Cut panels into pieces. Insert the first one with the groove side into the starting profile and attach it to the frame. The rest are connected into locks and fixed on the profiles. The last lamella is trimmed to the width and fixed together with the starting profile.
It is better to make cuts in the panels after their installation, since the holes significantly reduce their resistance to bending.
Main manufacturers
To decorate the room beautifully and for a long time, you should use the products of trusted manufacturers:
