Choice of materials

- Alkyd enamel is an inexpensive material that dries for a long time. Enamels of this type are not sufficiently resistant to mechanical stress - after painting, the surface will have to be varnished.

- Slate paint is a special type of paint that allows you to draw different types of patterns with crayons on the door leaf.
It is possible to paint doors with varnish, which increases the resistance of the surface of the leaf to various external influences (temperature, moisture, etc.) and is able to "turn" a cheap door into a work of art. The latter largely depends on the art of the master.

Preparatory work
The easiest way is to prepare a new door for painting. As a rule, they are all covered with a primary coat of primer or paint. Therefore, it is enough to put such a door leaf on a horizontal surface, clean it from dust and start painting.
If the new canvas is not primed, you will need:
- Inspect surfaces for chips, dents, scratches, etc.
- If defects are found, remove them with sandpaper. Sometimes you may also need wood putty.
- Sand the cloth with fine-grained emery paper.
The old door is removed from its hinges, the existing fittings are dismantled and laid on a horizontal base. To remove old paintwork you will need:
- industrial dryer;
- a grinder or grinder with an appropriate attachment;
- a set of spatulas;
- putty for wood.
Work order:
- A small section of the door leaf is heated with hot air, for which a hairdryer is needed.
- Remove old paint using an existing power tool. If it is absent, scrape off with a spatula.
- The cleaned surface is treated with wood putty, thereby removing the existing chips, dents and scratches.
- The door is sanded with fine-grained emery paper.
Having restored the surface of the door leaf, it is primed and, after complete drying, proceed directly to painting.
Painting
To paint a door leaf, a minimum set of tools is required:
- paint roller;
- container for paint;
- paint brushes and brushes;
- masking tape.
It is recommended to pull the bristles of paint brushes and brushes with little effort. If the bristles fall out, such a tool should not be used.
Do-it-yourself painting of wooden doors can be done in three ways:

- using a spray bottle.

Do not use foam rollers when painting the door leaf, since nitro enamels corrode foam rubber, the grains of which remain on the painted surface, and acrylic enamels, when interacting with foam rubber, form air bubbles that can ruin the painted surface.
A fur roller is considered the best for painting a door.
An excellent result is obtained when using a spray gun, which requires special equipment: a spray gun and a compressor. However, the spray gun can only be used outdoors or in a suitable room.
Getting started, it must be borne in mind that it is impossible to paint a wooden door with high quality in one go. It is necessary to apply two, three, and in some cases more coats of paint. Moreover, each of them should dry well. After the finishing layer of paint has completely dried, it does not hurt to apply a layer of transparent protective varnish to the surface of the wooden door.
