Self-production of a barrier: step by step instructions

Restricting access to a specific area - the courtyard of an apartment building, the territory of a non-profit partnership - is one of the popular ways to improve security. However, such a device cannot be installed on its own initiative, without coordinating its actions with the local administration and with the residents of the nearby village.

Why do you need a barrier

The purpose of any barrage device is to restrict the access of cars and trucks to any area. For a pedestrian, the barrier is not an obstacle.

The fence rarely appears in the suburban area. Access to the site is much better blocked by a gate. However, the common territory of a community or partnership is also sometimes required to be protected from unwanted visitors. Basically, this means "hunters" for metal. If oversized items, like an electric tool or things, are easy enough to steal, then a cast-iron bathtub, aluminum cladding from the facade, meters of an electric cable on your shoulder cannot be taken away. Transporting heavy items requires transport. A do-it-yourself barrier restricts entry to the territory, making such theft almost impossible.

The decision to install the barrier device is made at the general meeting of SNT or another organization. At the same time, an estimate must be submitted and the amount of additional payments for each member of the partnership must be calculated. Otherwise, the decision will be illegal.

Materials for making

You can make your own barrier out of iron or wood. Pros of the iron model:

• it is very difficult to damage or break the device, since the strength of the metal is high;
• the barrier has been in service for several decades. Especially if it is periodically treated with anti-corrosion agents;
• demolishing the metal barrier is much more difficult.

Cons of the device:

• heavy weight - if you do not equip the structure with a lifting mechanism, only a strong man can manually move the barrier;
• construction costs more than wood.

The wooden boom and bollard are definitely cheaper. There are other benefits too:

• the weight of the structure is much less, it is easier to install;
• the tree lasts long enough if it is treated with antiseptics and painted;
• the construction is simpler.

There are also disadvantages:

• the barrier is too light, it is not difficult to break it;
• in a region with strong winds, the arrow will have to be weighted.

The issue is decided taking into account the general safety requirements in the fenced area.

If a number of cottages represent an elite settlement, much more attention is paid to its protection. It is better to install a solid barrier here. It is also possible to prevent passage along the street between the dachas with the help of a wooden one.

Drawing rules

Any design includes 2 main elements:

• curbstone - the basis for the device;
• arrow - an element that blocks access.

Depending on the design, other details appear: control unit, gearbox, key release mechanism, etc.

To make a barrier in the country with your own hands, all elements are displayed in the drawing in the selected scale:

• the figure shows not only the shape of the elements - arrows, pedestals, mounts, axles, but also indicates their real dimensions and ratio;
• all elements are listed in a separate list;
• if the structure turns out to be heavy, a foundation will be required for the pedestal, its linear dimensions are indicated on the diagram;
• it is better to display the details in the section;
• create a separate drawing for the axle mechanism,

How to make a barrier for a house with your own hands

Assembling and installing the barrier does not take much time or effort. The step-by-step instructions are simple.

1. Determine the installation location. Prepare it depending on the type of barrier. For a metal structure, the site is concreted and the base under the curbstone is poured with concrete. If necessary, anchor plates are laid. For a wooden modification, a hole is dug under the support.
2. The iron curbstone is attached to the concrete with anchor bolts. The mixture should be completely seized by this point. A wooden rack is installed in a pit, covered with crushed stone and tamped with a stone mixture together with the soil.
3. Collect the arrow. The optimal length of the metal is the distance between the supports plus 10 cm. It is recommended to take profile pipes and make a double boom - in the form of a truss.
4. The wooden barrier is made of timber. The length is the same. Better to double it using thinner boards. They are fastened with wooden bushings.
5. Before installation, the elements are processed: metal parts are painted, wooden parts are impregnated with stains and antiseptics.
6. The swivel mechanism is fixed on the pedestal and an arrow is placed on it. Check the smoothness of the ride.
7. In the place where the barrier extends 40–70 cm beyond the base, fix the counterweight and check the stroke again.

The installation of the lifting mechanism differs little. But if there is no employee or guard next to the barrier, you need to install some device that fixes the upper "open" position of the boom. A latch, latch, counterweight hook will do. A bushing with bearings is used as an axial mechanism, or a rod or bolt with a diameter 1 mm less than the cross-section of the bushing is inserted into the bushing.

Maintenance of such structures is minimal. To ensure the high functionality of the device, it is worth considering the advice of experts:

• Barriers are painted in bright colors, visible from afar - red, orange. The green or black-and-white version is "lost" against the background of the road, which leads to unpleasant surprises.
• The arrow is recommended to be trimmed with a damper tape.This will extend its service life, and the opening of the barrier will be accompanied by less noise.
• Reflective stickers are attached to the boom to ensure visibility of the barrier at night. You can also place the flashlight near your device.
• Wooden and metal barriers periodically need to be treated with antiseptics and painted again.
