DIY brick house construction

Building a brick house with your own hands is not an easy undertaking, but its implementation will save a considerable amount and invest part of your soul in the building, being completely confident in the quality of each stage.

Brick features

A brick house is more durable, but it takes longer to build due to piece masonry

Brick construction has a long history and has not lost its relevance to this day.

The main features of the material:

  • The size. The stones are in the form of a parallelepiped with sides of 25x12x8 cm. There are products in which the dimensions differ upward or downward.
  • Styling technology. It is carried out in rows on a solid and level concrete base. The fragments are connected to each other with cement mortar. After it solidifies, an almost monolithic structure is formed.
  • High impact and pressure resistance.
  • Durability. The material is impervious to moisture, frost and ultraviolet light. Subject to construction technology, brick buildings stand for centuries.

The decision to build a brick house looks very promising, despite certain difficulties in its implementation.

Building material selection rules

Types of bricks for building a house

The success of building a house largely depends on the correct choice of material. The products on sale differ in type, purpose, composition and performance.

There is the following classification of bricks:

  • View. Simple goes to supporting structures and partitions, facing - to the outer cladding.
  • Device. The corpulent ones are stronger and are used to raise walls. Hollow cores are lighter, less heat conductive and are used for small buildings.
  • Structure. Clay is heavier, stronger and more resistant to moisture. Silicate ones are cheaper, but more susceptible to the external environment.

You need to pay attention to characteristics such as frost resistance and water absorption of bricks. These indicators directly affect the life of the building.

Required tools and materials

Bricklaying tools

Despite the scale and duration of the event, in order to build a brick house with your own hands, there is enough equipment that most owners already have.

To arrange the foundation you will need:

  • lathing;
  • counter lattice;
  • thermal insulation;
  • membrane film;

Marking the future site

It is necessary to comply with the norms of SNiP when marking the site

The construction of a brick mansion is a step-by-step process, it begins with the preparation of the working area.

Sequence:

  1. orientation to the cardinal points, determination of the location of the building;
  2. tracing with a cord and stakes, checking the distances along the legs and hypotenuses;
  3. cleaning the site from auxiliary objects, vegetation and debris;
  4. drawing the contour of the foundation.

The base for a brick building is usually chosen as a strip or in the form of a slab. Piles and poles are used less frequently, usually on slopes or areas that are regularly flooded.

Construction stages

A monolithic foundation is poured on loose soils

Construction should be carried out in the warm season and preferably in dry weather. Otherwise, expensive measures will have to be taken to add additives to the solution and build a rain shed.

Step-by-step instructions for erecting a brick building:

  1. Arrangement of the foundation. A pit, bedding, formwork and reinforcing cage will be made. Then concrete is poured. If necessary, inserts and pipes for communications are inserted.
  2. Implementation of masonry walls. First, the waterproofing is laid, then the corner stones are exposed. After placing them vertically and horizontally, laying in rows begins. Each subsequent one is displaced by half a stone. The seams are made with a thickness of 10-12 mm and are sewn immediately after the end of the row.
  3. Installation of jumpers. The beams should go at least 30 cm onto the walls with their edges. You can buy ready-made products or make them yourself. In places of partitions, bricks are removed from the outer wall to the inside.
  4. Installation of floors. They are made from timber, reinforced concrete pillars or hollow slabs.
  5. Roof erection. A rafter system is made, waterproofing, a roof covering is laid.

This is where the most difficult, expensive and time-consuming work ends. Further communications are laid, windows and doors are installed, internal and external finishing is applied.
