The use of insulation Ekoroll and its technical characteristics

The Knauf Insulation brand of the German company for the production of insulation materials for the building industry includes Ekoroll insulation. This is a type of thermal insulation for building structures, an inexpensive budget option. It is based on fiberglass, there are no formaldehyde and acrylic binders among the components, which makes the product environmentally friendly.

Specifications

Ekoroll has low thermal conductivity

The thermal insulation material has a porous structure, numerous voids are filled with air, which reduces its thermal conductivity. A layer of 50 mm is enough to provide the effect of brickwork, as thick as a brick.

Characteristics of Ecoroll insulation:

  • density - 10-13 kg / m3;
  • thermal conductivity in the initial state - 0.038 W / (m * K);
  • thermal conductivity during operation - 0.044 W / (m * K);
  • flammability - NG;
  • sound absorption - 45 dB;
  • tensile strength - 0.005 MPa;
  • water absorption - 1.5%;
  • humidity not more than 0.5%.

The given data testify to the high consumer qualities of Ekoroll thermal insulation.

Varieties of thermal insulation Ekoroll

Insulation is made in rolls or slabs

Insulation Knauf Ekoroll is a mineral wool filled with basalt chips or other natural minerals. Available in rolls, plates or cylinders. The roll insulation has a width of 1220 mm, a thickness of 50 mm, a roll length of 6800 or 8200 mm.

Ekoroll mineral wool slabs are used for thermal insulation of ceilings and walls. The most commonly used thermoplates are TR 040 or TR 044, 50 and 100 mm thick. The shrink-wrap package contains 8 or 16 units, depending on the thickness. When compressed, they take up a small volume and are easy to transport.

Insulation Ecoroll Extra is produced in the form of mats with a size of 1230x610 and a thickness of 50 or 100 mm. Has a moisture-repellent impregnation, which significantly expands the scope of application.

Foil insulation for pipes Ekoroll

Cylinders are used to isolate pipelines. They come in four varieties:

  • outer coating of metal foil, which increases resistance to mechanical stress;
  • non-foil coating, can be destroyed during high physical exertion;
  • by density - from 65 to 145 kg / m3;
  • by wall thickness - 1-20 mm;
  • the inner diameter is 1-140 cm.

Cylindrical heat insulators are used when installing chimneys in residential buildings, baths or boiler rooms.

Advantages and disadvantages

Ecoroll is non-toxic and non-allergenic

Among the characteristics of Ekoroll insulation, a number of advantages of the material are noted.

  • Natural, environmentally friendly. Does not cause allergies.
  • Non-toxic, not dangerous to humans and living beings.
  • Provides a high level of thermal insulation due to its low thermal conductivity.
  • Isolates the room from noise.
  • Not flammable. Creates a barrier to the spread of flame, can melt at high temperatures, while not emitting harmful substances, does not cause smoke. This allows it to be used in residential and public buildings.
  • The high density of thermal insulation Ekoroll makes it resistant to moisture.
  • Vapor permeability prevents the formation of moisture and mold on insulated surfaces.
  • Low weight eliminates increased load on building structures, facilitates transportation and loading.
  • There is no unpleasant smell.
  • It is not damaged by rodents and insects.
  • Easy to cut and lay thanks to its soft texture.
  • Versatility of use.
  • Long service life - 50 years.

Among the shortcomings, the high price is noted, although the price / quality ratio excludes this drawback.

Scope of the material

Insulation of the walls of a wooden house

As a heater, Ekoroll is widely used. This is facilitated by its positive characteristics. The high degree of vapor permeability allows it to be used in combination with breathable materials - wood, foam concrete, aerated concrete.

Scope of use of Knauf thermal insulation:

  • attic, interfloor, attic floors;
  • walls of buildings from various materials;
  • floors, interior walls and partitions;
  • main and local pipelines;
  • steam lines, ventilation and air conditioning systems;
  • chimneys.

Rolled materials Ekoroll are used to insulate horizontal structures - floors on logs above basements and ground or in attics, attic and interfloor ceilings. Can be used for thermal insulation of pitched roofs, external walls, internal partitions between rooms with temperature differences. Rolled insulation should not bear additional load on the material.

Thermoplates Ekoroll is a slab insulation for roofs, walls, ceilings. Created using the technology "3D-elasticity", it fits tightly to building structures. With its use, you can forget about cold bridges.

Plates are produced with a thickness of 50 or 100 mm. Thermal insulation with a thickness of 100 mm is more convenient to use. Faster and easier installation, no need to lay two layers, less operations and less waste. Plates are laid between the roof rafters or floor joists.

Installation of Knauf Ecoroll mineral wool

Thermal insulation of a wooden floor

Insulation of the wooden floor of the attic

Work order:

  1. The subfloor is cleaned of debris and dust, primed, covered with sheets of roofing material.
  2. Pre-prepared logs are laid out.
  3. Cover the floor and logs with waterproofing material.
  4. The waterproofing strips are laid with an overlap, glued together with mastic or construction tape, the material is attached to the logs with a stapler. The waterproofing layer should extend onto the walls to a height of 15 cm.
  5. The insulation is laid out between the logs. The plates are pre-cut, their width is made 3 cm more than the distance between the logs. The rolled fabric is cut in place. It is important that no uncovered space is left. If several layers of insulation are laid, the joint seams are placed with a shift of 15-20 cm.
  6. Next, a layer of vapor barrier is laid. To avoid shifting the film, it is fixed with a stapler to the heat-insulating layer, the joints are glued with mastic.

After laying the insulation between it and the floor covering, there should be a gap of 2-3 cm for air circulation.

Roof insulation

For thermal insulation of the roof, Ekoroll is used in the form of slabs.

When arranging an attic or living room in an attic, it is necessary to carry out roof insulation. To do this, use a slab insulation. It is important to prepare the room before work. The rafters must be dry, without damage from moisture and fungus, in the attic there must be a positive temperature.

The insulation should be separated from the roofing by a layer of waterproofing. Plates are placed in the space between the rafters, fastened with metal brackets. The joints of adjacent elements are coated with mastic or connected with construction tape. A special fiber or film is laid on top, which provides vapor barrier. An air gap must be left between the thermal insulation layer and the inner lining of the ceiling.

Wall insulation

Wall insulation with mats

For wall insulation, mineral wool mats with a thickness of 50 and 100 mm are used. On the leveled base, the insulation is glued using construction glue.This ensures a tight adhesion of the material to the base, which is important for thermal insulation. The basis for Ekoroll can be structures made of wood, concrete, brick, silicate blocks.

Methods for gluing insulation

The adhesive is applied to the slabs in a continuous layer or along the perimeter of the slabs. A continuous layer is leveled with a notched trowel over the entire surface. This method is suitable for perfectly flat surfaces. If there are irregularities on the walls, the edges of the plates along the perimeter are coated with an adhesive compound, the width of the strip is made 100 mm. In the center, 8-10 strokes with a diameter of 100 mm are made. The thickness of the adhesive layer is 3 mm.

The glued plate is pressed to the base with your hands, then straightened to the edge using the rule. No glue should get into the seams between the slabs. The joints are glued with tape. A reinforcing fiberglass mesh is applied to the insulation, which is glued to the base. Next, a leveling layer and a surface primer are performed. After 2 days, decorative plaster is applied, the walls are painted.
