It is necessary to filter the liquid from the tap - its quality deteriorates every year. With an autonomous supply of water from a well or well, it is also better to install filtration devices. In order for them to serve for a long time, they must be periodically cleaned of dirt or replaced.
Frequency of cleaning water filters
Filtration devices pass water through themselves, stopping suspensions of various sizes. To prevent these residues from interfering with the further passage of the water flow, the equipment requires periodic flushing. If this method of cleaning is not possible, for example, in terms of cartridge devices, they are replaced with new ones. If this is not done, pumping equipment will become unusable, which will start to idle.
Typically, cartridges are changed every six months, and membranes for reverse osmosis devices are changed every three years. At the same time, it is advisable to clean the flask from plaque. Abrasives and melamine sponges are not suitable. The former are capable of disrupting the structure of the surface of the flask, the latter - to leave their particles on it. The safest way to use home remedies is vinegar and citric acid.
The frequency of cleaning mechanical coarse cleaning devices depends on the amount of coarse suspended matter in the water. If there are few of them, the sump will work without maintenance for more than one year, and the sump will hardly fill up. But sometimes these filters need to be cleaned almost every two weeks. At least after such a time, it is worth checking the condition of the filtering devices.
The ability to clean different types of cartridges
Cleaning of cartridge devices is not always possible, some devices require replacement of filter elements. And sometimes you need to bring the concentration of reagents to the desired level.
How to clean the filter depending on the type of cartridge:
№ | Cartridge device view | Cleansing method |
1 | Plastic and metal mesh | Removing from the filter housing and flushing. |
2 | Polypropylene fiber | It is impossible to clean, only a replacement. |
3 | From the filter jug | You can cut off the cap once, then remove the mesh inside and rinse with boiled water. After the second service life, it must be replaced. |
4 | Ion exchange | Those belonging to the Fe series are replaced after the end of the resource. Ion-exchange resin softening cartridges are regenerated with 10% sodium chloride solution. |
5 | Carbonic | It is impossible to clean a carbon filter with compressed filler for water purification. Such options require replacement. If bulk granular charcoal is used, it is realistic to remove the contaminated composition and refill with a new one. |
6 | From the material "aragon" | For cleansing, soda powder and citric acid are used. |
7 | Membrane for household reverse osmosis systems | They are not subject to flushing, only replacement at the end of the service life. |
To lengthen the service life of the membrane diaphragm, it is necessary to regularly clean the post-treatment filtering devices and rinse the housing, as well as replace the cartridges in the blocks that are installed in front of the membrane.
There are water treatment systems with automatic flushing and regeneration of filtering devices. The dose of the necessary reagents for disinfection and restoration of cleaning elements is calculated by "smart" automation.
Cleaning the mechanical filter
The most popular cleaning devices are coarse filtration systems in the form of a metal or polymer mesh.Depending on the size of the meshes, they are able to retain contaminants of different sizes.
Cleaning of such a device is carried out through the drainage of the sump.
- Before the procedure, they shut off the water supply using shut-off valves or contact the housing department with a statement so that a specialist disconnects the water in the basement.
- An adjustable wrench is used to unscrew the drain on the sump. If it does not reach the desired assembly, you can use a car spark plug wrench. If the lid is firmly in place, use machine oil. For this, it is poured with a syringe onto the connecting section between the lid and the outlet.
- Check the condition of the sealing part on the cover. If the gasket is thinned, it also needs to be replaced. Otherwise, a leak will appear at this place in the near future.
- After opening the lid and checking manipulations, the mesh part is removed and washed under water flow with high pressure. If silt or other stubborn dirt sticks to the mesh, you can use a brush, for example, an old toothbrush.
Assemble the filtering device in reverse order. A mesh part is inserted into the sump, secured with a gasket, the purifier is inserted into the outlet, the lid is wrapped with a key. The unit is checked for leaks: there should be no water droplets after turning on the water supply.
If you approach the cleaning of filtering devices correctly, you can significantly extend the life of the cleaning devices, save money on the purchase of new cartridges and prevent the wear of the entire water supply system.
