It is quite possible to make the transfer of the water supply risers, if you do not like their current location. It is necessary to draw up a project and coordinate it with the management company, and then follow a technology similar to replacing such sections of the highway with new ones.
When you need to transfer risers
Stand-up pipe sections that supply water are most often installed in a bathroom or toilet at a distance of about 4 cm from the wall. One section of the line must be mounted on a group of water-folding devices. Stop valves are installed at its lower base.
They decide to replace the risers if they are leaky, heavily clogged, the pipes have expired. Also, replacement is usually done during large-scale repair work. At the same time, the risers are changed minimally from the ceiling to the floor covering, and ideally in all apartments from the top floor to the basement. Inserting a small piece on such pipes is impractical.
If you want to increase the usable area of the bathroom or the design requires it, the riser pipes of cold and hot water supply can be moved.
Work is necessary in such cases:
- the risers are located in the wrong place according to the layout;
- there is a desire to create a combined bathroom, but the pipes run right in its center;
- it is planned to swap the living room and sanitary premises;
- pipes interfere with the installation of modern plumbing - corner bath, jacuzzi, shower;
- the heated towel rail is required to be transferred to another wall;
- it is impossible to mount metering devices normally.
The convenient location of the risers will create the desired environment. When designing a reconstruction, you need to think through everything to the smallest detail, because large-scale repairs are carried out once a decade.
How does the negotiation take place?
With a simple replacement of riser pipes from valves, no permits are required. If it is precisely the transfer of the risers of hot and cold water supply to another place in the apartment that is planned, agreement with the management of the management company will be required. To obtain it, calculations are made that allow you to perform work taking into account all the features of the building and general communications, and you also need a written statement from the owner of the property. If there are several owners, everyone must declare their consent. All these documents are submitted to the Criminal Code and, if there are no violations of housing legislation, the transfer project will be approved.
In case of redevelopment, changes are made to the technical plan of the apartment. They must be certified by the BTI and the Housing Inspectorate or the appropriate department of the administration of the settlement.
It will also be necessary to coordinate with the housing department the time for shutting down the water supply. This will be done by the plumber on duty. The service is not free. The same will have to be done with a simple replacement of risers, if it is carried out further than the shut-off valve, or the valve does not hold water well enough.
It is necessary to warn the neighbors about the upcoming shutdown in advance so that the lack of water in the taps does not become an unpleasant surprise for them.
How the work is carried out
The initial stage will be the preparation of design materials, hydraulic calculations and obtaining permission from regulatory authorities.
On the appointed day, the first thing to do is shut off the water supply to the hot water and cold water pipes. If the wiring in the apartment is of a dead-end type, the riser pipes can be shut off with a valve at the outlet and drained using a plug or vent.With a circulation system, even if there are shut-off valves, you will have to turn off the shutdown in the basement and on the upper floor, otherwise the hot water will not be shut off.
Further steps for the transfer of risers:
- When the remaining water is drained, the old pipes are cut off with a grinder and a pipe cutter near the floor and ceiling.
- Smoothly curved elbows are connected to the remaining ends, serving as adapters. They will stabilize the water pressure in the common house wiring.
- Discharge pipes are attached to them with a length sufficient to transfer the risers to the desired location. The bends will run over the floor and under the ceiling. The connection is made by soldering, welding or threading. It depends on the material of the new line.
- After fixing on the floor and ceiling, the bends are sewn into boxes or hidden behind floor, suspended structures. Sometimes they are hidden in the grooves in the wall or in the screed.
- A heated towel rail, shut-off valves, filtration devices are installed, plumbing is connected - in the same way as in the traditional replacement of risers without transfer.
When all the installation manipulations are completed, a connection is made to the general house water supply network.
If the installation is done poorly, the owner of the square meters will be responsible. To avoid unpleasant consequences, it is worth hiring professionals to install new pipes, who can give a written guarantee.
