The autonomous water supply, unfortunately, is not limited to drilling a well. Its subsequent arrangement also plays an important role. There are two types of equipment. It is impossible to answer unequivocally which is better - a caisson or a downhole adapter, since each installation has both advantages and disadvantages.
Comparative analysis of caisson and borehole adapter
To figure out what is best for a particular case, you need to understand what each type of equipment is.
Downhole adapter
A miniature part is installed below the level of soil freezing. With the onset of cold weather, the water will not freeze. When installing the pump, the borehole adapter is lowered into the borehole and the components are snapped in at the end. The connection is characterized by high strength and tightness. Then everything is buried and a flat area remains.
The adapter, in comparison with the caisson, has a more acceptable cost, in practice the price is 10 times lower. This is perhaps the only advantage. More on the disadvantages:
- Cannot be used for wells with deep immersion of the pumping station. The allowed limit is 50 meters. It is better not to put experiments, it is highly likely that the adapter will not withstand the weight of the pump itself and the pipe filled with water.
- Downhole adapters are difficult to maintain because they are installed deep underground. In the event of breakdowns, malfunctions, they have to be dug out.
- Automation and tank must be installed in a residential area.
- Limited scope. Water can only be supplied to a constantly heated room.
It is also worth mentioning the absence of a function that drains water from an autonomous pipeline.
Well caisson
The main task of the caisson is to shelter the head of the well from freezing and divert pipes below the level of soil freezing. Unlike an adapter, this type of equipment allows you to draw a conclusion to various buildings, for example, to bring pipes to several houses.
In addition, pressure automation and a membrane tank are placed in the caisson. All connections in the device are located in the field of view, they can be easily inspected and serviced. In more detail about other advantages of the equipment:
- No restrictions on immersion depth.
- The equipment rarely fails, but if necessary, it is easy to maintain and carry out repair and preventive measures.
- Water draining is carried out for each building separately.
As for the disadvantages, the most significant is the high cost.
When are adapters installed?
Arrangement of a source with a downhole adapter is carried out in the following cases:
- When the source freezes with the arrival of cold weather for a certain period of time.
- With a very limited budget.
- If urgent installation is required.
- When communication lines are located nearby.
The adapter has a low cost, and also helps to save additional time and money on installation. Installing a downhole adapter is a fairly simple task, you can complete all construction work within a few hours.
You can install the equipment yourself, just familiarize yourself with the installation steps. First, install the main part, and then the counterpart. Before proceeding with the installation, a hole is made through which the equipment passes unhindered.
When to install a caisson
Under all circumstances, it is always preferable to install a caisson. The only option when you can do without it: the owners of the well have a small house.
If we are talking about the presence of a gazebo, a garage, a bathhouse, a summer crane and other buildings on a personal plot, more expensive equipment will have to be installed. This is due to its versatility.
If a caisson is installed, it will be possible to quickly replace the submersible pump in the future. The adapter also allows you to do this, but often its surfaces stick together, which complicates the dismantling process. With the caisson installed, maintenance, preventive work and repairs are carried out without difficulty.
The high cost of the caisson is justified by the excellent build quality, long operating period, ease of installation and a wide range of applications.
It is recommended to purchase equipment from the official representatives of the manufacturer or in large hardware stores. It is important to check that you have the required documentation and warranty card before purchasing.
If you do it "for yourself", as they say, then it is better to put it, I had an iron one, but it rusted through, and when it was flooded with groundwater, the pump refused, in winter it was left without water. In the spring, I put a caisson made of Bio-s plastic, there are wide loading platforms from below, and the walls are reinforced. Above, near the neck there is a shelf, brought out an additional branch pipe through it, for watering the lawn. The caisson is still more versatile than the adapter, and you can still store something inside.
