Making ordinary water drinkable is an easy task. There are a large number of filters, of which the most effective is reverse osmosis. Design features and principle of operation
Like many flow-through filters, titanium consists of a cylindrical body and a cartridge. The body (flask) is made of medical grade stainless steel AISI 304. The cartridge is a titanium powder fused into a solid mass, which is formed in the form of a porous structure. But only the pores in the material have a small diameter - 0.8 microns. For comparison, a reverse osmosis filter has a pore diameter of 1 micron.
The principle of operation of a titanium filter is exactly the same as that of any flow-through filtering device. It is cut into the pipeline, in which it is connected to the pipes by means of a thread.
The water passes through the inlet pipe, enters the inside of the cylindrical cartridge. It passes through it, freeing itself from impurities and impurities, and enters the space between the inner wall of the flask and the outer planes of the cartridge. From here it is already discharged into the outlet pipe.
A drain pipe is installed in the lower part of the filter housing. It is connected to the sewer through a faucet or valve and is used when the filter needs to be rinsed.
Truth and fiction about titanium filters
Another misconception is the non-removable cartridge that can be used for 50 years. Firstly, the titanium device belongs to the category of removable type fine filters. In front of them, it is imperative to mount a filter element with cells in the range of 5-100 microns. The titanium model won't last even a few days without it. The cartridge will simply become clogged with dirt. Secondly, even a coarse filter or post-treatment filter allows contamination to pass through itself. Therefore, the titanium filter element will become clogged. It is not a problem to clean it, the water pressure is enough.
The manufacturers guarantee that after regeneration the appliance will function like new. To do this, the cartridge itself must be immersed in a solution of 10% citric acid. Under its action, impurities will quickly dissolve. The main thing is to rinse the filter with water under pressure after the procedure.
The number of regenerations is not limited. Titanium can easily withstand acid loads without changing its structure and shape.
It is believed that the water passing through the titanium filter element becomes clean and odorless. No modern filter element can do this. This problem requires an integrated approach, which uses several filters for different purposes. Mainly hydrogen sulfide and iron oxides give the water an unpleasant odor. By installing an aeration column in front of the titanium instrument, odor reduction can be guaranteed.
It is believed that titanium disinfects liquids. This metal is actually inert to all forms of biological life. Therefore, it is used in medicine as an element of prosthetics.It does not form colonies of bacteria and microorganisms of other forms of life. But this does not mean that the titanium is killing them. In any case, laboratory studies have not confirmed this.
Another misconception - titanium filters will work without problems for 50 years. Manufacturers do not talk about the service life, but about the amount of water purified by the device. This figure is equal to 300,000 liters. The volume is impressive, in many houses or apartments the filter can work for more than a dozen years, but hardly 50.
It is misleading to say that this unique filter element softens water. The titanium filter belongs to the category of fine cleaning devices, it does not provide water softening. This requires a different kind of filters.
